Sign in and trial

How sign-in works, what Keebye stores, how the 14-day trial runs, what happens when it ends, and how to sign out.

Sign-in is required to dictate. Your account carries your trial or Pro entitlement; the transcription itself never leaves your Mac.

Signing in

  1. In the "Sign in to Keebye" window, choose "Continue with Google" or "Continue with Email".

  2. Keebye opens keebye.com in your system browser and shows "Complete sign-in in your browser…". Finish there.

  3. The browser hands you back to Keebye automatically. If it does not, press "Start over" in the app and try again. Each sign-in link is single-use and expires after 5 minutes.

What Keebye stores

The session is kept in the macOS Keychain under the service com.keebye.app, account auth. The token never enters a webview. Your email, name, and plan are cached in memory only while Keebye runs.

  • Keebye refreshes the token in the background within an hour of expiry and re-checks your entitlement about every 10 minutes and whenever Settings opens.
  • Only an HTTP 401 or 403 ends the session. A network error keeps it, and an unexpired cached token is trusted offline.

The 14-day trial

The trial starts on your first desktop sign-in and lasts 14 days. It is tracked on the server, so reinstalling does not restart it. Settings › Account shows your status as a badge.

  • "trial · N days left" while the trial is running.
  • "pro" once you have a paid plan.
  • "trial ended" when the 14 days are over.

When the trial ends

The hotkey becomes inert and passes through to the focused app. Settings opens once per run with the "trial ended" badge and an "Upgrade to Pro" button that takes you to keebye.com/#pricing. Your history and settings stay on your Mac.

Sign out or switch accounts

Settings › Account › "Sign out" clears the Keychain session. The login window then shows "Not signed in — dictation is paused until you sign in." with a "Sign in…" button. To switch accounts, sign out and sign in again.

Sign-in errors

  • "Sign-in link was invalid. Please try again." — the link was already used or did not match this app. Start over.
  • "Sign-in expired. Please try again." — more than 5 minutes passed. Start over.
  • "Sign-in was rejected. Please try again." — the server refused the token. Start over.
  • "Could not reach the sign-in server. Check your connection and try again." — Keebye could not reach app.geekbye.com.
